Account deletion

Deleting your ein1 account

You can delete your ein1 account and the data in it at any time. Pick whichever route fits.

You still have the app

Profile, then Edit profile, then Delete account. We email you a six digit code to confirm.

See the steps

You have uninstalled it

No need to reinstall. Email us from the address on your account and we will take it from there.

Email privacy@mail.ein1.app

Either way, you get 30 days to change your mind. Your account is deactivated straight away and your content is hidden, but nothing is permanent until those 30 days are up.

From inside the app#

  1. Open ein1 and go to your Profile.
  2. Tap Edit profile, then Delete account.
  3. Choose whether to delete your content or keep your content.
  4. Enter the six digit code we email you, and confirm.

The code is there so that someone with brief access to your unlocked phone cannot delete your account.

If you have already uninstalled the app#

You do not need to reinstall it. Email privacy@mail.ein1.app from the address on your ein1 account, with the subject "Delete my account", and tell us which you want:

  • Delete my content, or
  • Keep my content

The next section explains the difference. We can only act on a request sent from the address on the account, because that is how we confirm the account is yours. A person reads every message sent to that address, and we will reply to confirm when the deletion has been recorded.

What happens next#

Your account is deactivated: you are signed out on every device, and your reviews, photos and collections are hidden from everyone.

You then have 30 days to change your mind. Open the app, start to sign in, and you will be offered a code by email that restores the account. Everything that was hidden comes back exactly as it was. The 30 day deadline is fixed at the moment the deletion is recorded and never moves.

After 30 days the deletion is carried out permanently and cannot be undone.

What is deleted, whichever you choose#

Your sign-in credentials and sessions, your Google and Apple connections, your notification tokens and devices, your profile photos, your follows, your blocks, your interests, your reactions, your recently viewed list, your search records, and your business claims together with the proof documents attached to them.

If you signed in with Apple, we also ask Apple to revoke the connection at their end, so ein1 no longer appears in the list of apps you have used Sign in with Apple for.

What happens to the content you posted#

Your contentDelete my contentKeep my content
ReviewsPermanently deletedKept, shown as by "Deleted user"

Worth knowing, because it surprises people: if you choose keep my content, your reviews and photos are hidden during the 30 day window and then become visible again when the deletion completes, attributed to "Deleted user". If you want them gone, choose delete my content.

What is kept, and why#

  • An anonymised placeholder for your profile. Your name becomes "Deleted user" and your email address is replaced with an unusable one. This is needed so that conversations you took part in are not left one sided, and so that "keep my content" is possible at all. It holds no personal information, and your real email address is freed, so you can sign up again with it.
  • The fact that a message was sent, where you chose "delete my content". The words are removed, the conversation is not, because it is shared with another person.
  • Reports you filed about other people's content, as moderation evidence. Once your profile is a placeholder they no longer identify you.
  • Businesses you added to the directory. These are public listings that other people review, follow and save. If you were the sole owner of a claimed business, the business returns to being unclaimed rather than being handed to someone else.
  • Anything we are required to keep to comply with a legal obligation or to resolve a dispute.

If you are the only owner of a claimed business#

We will tell you at the point of request, and we cannot complete the deletion until the ownership has been transferred. Email privacy@mail.ein1.app and we will help you sort it out.
